The Walk and Talk offering at Journey Within is an alternative to traditional indoor therapy that uses nature as a resource for grounding, regulation and healing.

Often referred to as "nature therapy," Walk and Talk involves taking traditional psychotherapy sessions outdoors and incorporating the  natural setting into the therapeutic work. It is based on the idea that human beings are deeply connected to the natural environment, and that engaging with nature can significantly enhance our mental and emotional health.

Nature provides rich and vivid metaphors that can be used in psychotherapy to help with the understanding of experiences, emotions, and processes of healing. For example, trees can withstand storms because of their deep roots and flexible branches. Similarly, people can develop resilience by grounding themselves (roots) and being adaptable (branches).

These metaphors can make abstract concepts more tangible and relatable, aiding in the therapeutic journey.

Benefits of working Nature therapy:

Working outdoors can be  accessible for those who find traditional in-room sessions challenging, enhancing their ability to engage with difficult emotions.

Natural light calms the mind, reducing stress,  anxiety and combats depression

Nature therapy encourages mindfulness, enhancing emotional regulation and deepening self-connection

Ecotherapy provides opportunities to use nature for  creativity and problem-solving and reducing mental fatigue

Sessions will be held in all types of weather, except thunderstorms and strong winds. Just as life is unpredictable, so is nature, making the experience of embracing uncertainty a valuable metaphor within the therapeutic process.
